What We Have Learned

Wowza! It has been almost a year since our last post. We must have taken the ol' Benji Franklin quote, "write something worth reading, or do something worth writing about" to heart. On the doing something level that is. It just ended up being one of those long stretches of time where life is moving so fast, there is no time to reflect -only time to live in the moment- which we kind of like. So to play catch-up and add some sort of coherence to our posts here is a list of the top ten lessons (in no particular order) we learned on our voyages in 2017.

  •  Big dogs will keep you warm in a cold tent
  • The Grand Canyon's campsites are phenomenal
  • 16 degrees is too cold for a hike
  • 20 degrees with no wind and ample sunshine is not too cold for a hike
  • Our littlest nerd will complete any adventure if a bag lunch is involved
  • Sand piles can provide you with warmth and are also good for hours of free entertainment
  • There is no silence quite like the silence of a dad who is about to run out of gas in a remote area outside of Joshua Tree
  • Good binoculars are worth it
  • Put in the extra effort and find that hidden swimming hole
  • NPS' Every Kid in a Park is an awesome program
